We close out the qualifying rounds for the Supreme Championships today with action from the final round for the 2l Stock Cars along with more from the Lightning Rods and Stock Cars ahead of their finals and the penultimate meeting of the year for the PRI Bangers.
Indeed we have plenty to look forward to in the 2l Stock Car formula today as the various competitors vie for points towards their grid positions in the final which takes place on Ronnie Martin’s Memorial day at the end of October and while Bill King leads George Boult Jr. by a healthy 17 points, we saw Bill getting a bit of competition at our last meeting over the Bank Holiday with Nathan Roberts finally winning the final on the day after being denied trophies in the heats by stock car newcomer Danny Guidotti and veteran Captain Condom Steve Davies while Bill could only manage third at best in any given race. While his car seemed to be unstoppable in earlier meetings, others now seem to have his measure and more than one driver has finally remembered what the front bumper on a stock car is actually used for!
Actually, talking of Dan Guidotti, his recent success in the Essex Championship for the Lightning Rods hasn’t done him any harm in the points in the drivers’ championship and with one meeting to go before this years’ Supreme Championship, it makes me wonder if he is looking to take the entire trophy cabinet for this year. Quite a move from the former pickup driver, but it won’t be without competition with Anthony Lawrence and Connor Reeve also in hot pursuit of the driver’s title, not to mention their positions on the Supreme grid.
The Stock Rods also have their competition right now with a lot of interest from drivers and a lot of very tight racing up front in any given race. You never quite know who will take the trophy in any race, whether a lower graded driver manages to keep the pace brisk at the front or one or more of the higher graded drivers make it through. The points are even more fascinating as Dave Crouch controls the lead despite rarely grabbing a trophy while the Supreme grid here features former banger man Michael Seex and Danny Wade at the front with Dave. Certainly a meeting to look forward to but check out today’s racing to see if you can work out who the likely Supreme Champion might be.
Yes, I wasn’t kidding. Today is the last but one meeting for the PRI Bangers this year and most likely the last this year that you will see them in any colour other than orange! The meeting over the Bank Holiday weekend certainly had its moments with all sorts of unusual cars breaking up the various stock Fords, Vauxhalls and such.
Yes, there is also a points championship here and that is getting to be a pretty tight affair as Tom Greenstreet and Billy Standing swap places at the top on an almost race by race occurrence.
As for our next meeting, you would do well to cancel everything to be there as, for the fortyseventh time, we gather drivers from around the banger racing world to contest the annual ORC National Bangers World Championship. Drivers from all over compete for the honour of the gold roof for the longest running competition of its type. We also feature the 2l Stock Cars Essex Championship and some Ministox racing in one of our biggest meetings of the year, starting at 1pm on Sunday, September 24.
