It’s all about the Supremes today and no, I’m not talking about a 1960s Motown singing group, I’m talking about the first round of the Supreme Championships for the Stock Rods and the Lightning Rods which both get going today along with more from the 2l Stock Cars and, as ever, banger action which is being provided today by the PRI Bangers.
The Stock Rods have been really putting in a performance over the last couple of meetings, even if some of the performances were unintentional. In the last meeting, for example, the contribution of oil to the bridge end turn by various dying engines caused more than one slippage into our fences and the meeting before that had similar trouble, this time caused by rain late in the meeting. It just goes to show that these drivers put a lot of effort into their driving but that luck can never be ruled out of the equation, especially when nature takes a hand!
As for the Lightning Rods, although they seem to have got away with some good driving weather, past experience shows that this is a formula where anything that can go wrong… well, I always said that Murphy was an optimist! In both the Rod formulas, todays’ points will be counted not only for the annual drivers’ championship but also towards the Supreme Championship grid position. The more you get, the further forward you go. If you have been watching both formulas from the start of the season, you will have had a chance to see who is doing well and who might be in with a chance at grabbing the silver roof this year.
Of course the 2l Stocks don’t have to worry so much about that sort of thing but they still have their own drivers’ championship to think about. They certainly put on a show in our last meeting but it seems that “Dizzy D” Don West is really mopping up this season, grabbing yet another final win last meeting just by being patient enough when the cars in front decided to self destruct! We shall see what today brings…
We can’t leave out the bangers and while the Micro Banger World Series has been riveting to watch this season, the PRI Bangers have certainly been holding their own, whether by winning, wrecking or going up in flames! Hopefully the amount of hard wrecking won’t lead to a loss of numbers in general but those that brave the circuit for these events will always be appreciated.
And so we hit the middle of the season and the return of a fixture that has been absent for a few years now as our resident video company, Impact Video, sponsors the return of the National Bangers Shootout for Unlimited and 2l/Under Bangers. We also have more Lightning Rods and Ministox. All at our usual start time of 1pm on Sunday, June 4.
