A peaceful Easter Sunday was certainly not on the agenda as the PRI Bangers were let loose once again in front of an appreciative crowd.

Along with Mark Carroll, Harry Stevens won a heat race, but was then disqualified for a very hard hit he dished out to Ray Rumbold in the final. Somehow Rumbold drove away from the attack but when he tried to turn around for revenge, his suspension collapsed leaving him vulnerable in the middle of the straight. Thankfully the pack managed to avoid him.

A heavy shunt on the pit bend saw an anxious few moments as Ricky Deans recovered his senses and new driver Tawnee Lee was another who needed to be checked over by the medical crew before returning later in the day.

With such carnage, there were very few cars left running by the end of the final. Paul Whiteman was somewhat predictably the man at the front when it mattered, although the pool of oil under his car at the end indicated that second placed man, Carl Davis was barely a lap away from success. Reiss Carroll continued his fine start to the formula with third place.

The Destruction Derby was very short and sweet with a succession of heavy impacts leaving just Jamie Webb mobile, despite getting his car onto two wheels after a big smash from Karl Jarvis.

Kieran Rowe brought about a restart to the first Mini Stox heat by hitting the turn one armco very hard indeed. The restart was even more chaotic with cars spinning left and right along the home straight, Molly Smithson bringing the race to another halt after backing into the armco. Finally the race was properly underway, even though another scramble along the home straight saw Charlie Morphey spin Harry Steward into Lauren Overy, sending both careering in different directions. Alfie Jones got into the lead before David Shearing was fired very hard into the fence by Jack Goldsmith, Shearing getting knocked out on impact and bringing the race to a premature conclusion. Shearing thankfully later confirmed as being uninjured.

Thankfully the two remaining races on the programme were less chaotic with Sophie Fasey winning both of them, her second heat and final double of the season.

Phil Wise and Brian Jarvis won the Stock Car heats before both struck trouble in the final, allowing Matt Fuller to take his second final success of the season.

The Lightning Rods were as controversial as always. In the first heat there was a bit of a tit-for-tat exchange between Dave Imber and Steven Norman, with the former disqualified for an over-the-top attempt at payback which in truth just saw him attract more damage. In the final Richard Warner and Richard Norman had a bit of a tussle which saw, double heat winner, Norman pull out with damage. The closely following Steven Norman then did an Imber-like manoeuvre on Warner which netted him the same disqualification! Amongst those that could resist the urge to drive into a rival, it was ironically a former National Banger star who won the final, Nathan Roberts well clear of Nigel Carroll and Anthony Lawrence.
The Lightning Rods do tend to implode a touch at times but we understand that both Imber and at least one of the Norman brothers may well be looking to move on and out of the formula, perhaps to the new Stock Car class. Clearly the sort of manoeuvring we saw on Easter Sunday is far more suited to such a class.

Ray Rumbold goes in search of revenge. Although he was willing, his car was not!

Another Junior Mini Stox race gets underway at Arena Essex with Lauren Nicholls getting spun aside.
